Very very early 35mm slide image of SAS's first DC-8 jet taken May 11, 1960 at CPH Copenhagen, Denmark as it is being prepared for a transatlantic flight to IDL Idlewild, New York (of course this airport is now known as JFK). Image shows the jet complete with its beautiful Scandinavian Airlines Systems name, color scheme and 'Dan Viking' on the nose of the aircraft - just as it was originally delivered to SAS just over 1 month prior on March 31, 1960 and just 10 days after its inaugural transatlantic flight on May 1, 1960 to New York. This photo was taken May 11, 1960 at CPH Copenhagen, Denmark prior to flight to IDL Idlewild, New York (Airport re-named JFK in 1963) by the photographer who was a passenger on the flight. The tail number for this plane was OY-KTA (per SAS difficult to see in slide ).The slide is in excellent condition with the actual color and crispness is better than shown.

    Description

Very very early 35mm slide image of SAS's first DC-8 jet taken May 11, 1960 at CPH Copenhagen, Denmark prior to a transatlantic flight to IDL Idlewild, New York (of course this airport is now known as JFK).
The tail number for this plane was OY-KTA (
    per SAS
difficult to see in slide ).
The slide is in excellent condition
with the actual color and crispness is better than shown.
One side features Kodachrome Transparency Processed By Kodak.  Other side has original description "DC-8 Jet At Copenhagen 5/11" that was written in 1960 by the amateur
photographer (R. Roosa who was a passenger on the flight), embossed develop date "May 60" and slide # "20" and "Made In U.S.A".
Slide was acquired recently at the photographer's estate sale and has never been published. This slide hasn't been seen in more than 50 years when it was placed in the slide carousel in 1960 (the same carousel that I removed the slide from today.  Slide has great resolution - see close ups taken of the slide.
