Description
This listing is for a circa 1925 early CHILTON fountain pen from BOSTON. This is a lined black hard rubber pen with modest and uniform toning and wear. It has flawless gold filled trim with the clip marked CHILTON in script, sort of. The decorative orange cap top is, I'd guess, catalin. The 3 line barrel imprint is not strong, but quite legible. This is a unique pen for it's inovative ( for the time) pneumatic filler which a cylindrical tube (which contains the sac) that lies beneath the rubber barrel. To operate, the barrel is pulled down over the tube allowing air to flow into the barrel via a hole in the base (last photo). The sac is compressed by holding a finger over the hole while pushing the barrel back up. By opening the hole, the air flows out allowing the sac to fill. Pretty cool! These early models, buy the nature of the beast, had long sections and long caps. Later modifications eliminated that. This clip style apparently was used only on the earliest models as far as I have been able to find. The nib is a really nice 14k "CHILTON PEN BOSTON," medium point with excellent flexibility and perfect condition. There is no sac in this pen. If you want more than a static display or dip pen, it's up to you to have a sac installed.Prior to bidding, please read below the information on payment, return policy and on international shipping.
